Position Responsibilities
The primary responsibility of the Composites Field Technician is to perform fiberglass blade (and other fiberglass wind components) repairs, either on the ground or on a suspended platform, supporting major Wind OEM's and Asset Owners throughout North America.

  • Travel extensively with little or no notice to customer wind farm sites.
  • Perform duties such as internal or external inspections, internal or external structural repairs and/or leading and trailing edge repairs, following procedures developed by the Blades Engineering Manager, both on the ground or on a suspended platform.
  • Able to safely utilize blade access platforms and boom trucks to access blades uptower for repairs; rope access is a plus.
  • Knowledge of inspections of Lightning Protection Systems.
  • Document all work, pictures and procedures using IEA's online tools.
  • Communicate site status to Engineering, customers, and the internal Operations team.
  • Provide LOTO support
  • Read and comprehend procedures as developed by Engineering, understand wind blade construction and repairs and ability to read electrical schematics.
  • Provide support to onsite field team leaders when and where needed.
  • Ability to multi
  • task and prioritize competing requests.

    Skills
  • Knowledge of basic turbine mechanics, fiberglass structural repairs, utilization of platforms and other access methods. Basic understanding of LOTO.
  • SPRAT access trained is a plus.

    Physical Requirements
    In addition to a general ability to work on a suspended platform at heights, often with tools and equipment in tow, the following requirements must be met:
  • Able to lift / Carry materials that are an average weight of (35) pounds, up to (70) pounds 8 to 10 Hours Daily, from waist, shoulder or even above shoulders.
  • Requires individuals to be able to communicate via hearing, speaking and seeing throughout the day.
  • Must be comfortable with heights (260 feet or more) and confined spaces.
  • Able to Sit or be in a stationary position at times 8 to 10 hours daily.
  • Capable of Standing, Walking and Climbing as much as 8 to 10 Hours daily.
  • Reaching/Positioning Self as frequently as 8 to 10 Hours Daily
  • Lifting/Transporting 8
  • 10 Hours Daily

  • Ability to operate hand controls as much as 8 to 10 Hours Daily. This includes.
    *Finger Manipulation
    *Repetitive Motions
  • Able to tolerate exposure to weather (ranging from hot, cold, rain, sun, snow) up to 8 Hours Daily.
  • Ability to meet OSHA weight requirements for ladder climbing of 250 to 300 pounds, determined by considering the total weight limits of ladders and rigging harnesses including equipment and tools, as well as the combined weight of any two climbers in a potential rescue situation.
