Overview

VTG is seeking Telecommunications Electrician supporting Navy NGEN located in Crane, Indiana


What will you do?

  • Follows construction drawings, scope of work, specifications or verbal instructions and plans the intended location of wiring and equipment.
  • Measures, cuts, assembles, and installs electrical wiring, stripping, splicing as necessary.
  • Installs switches, circuit breakers, grounding leads and other electrical components.
  • Performs circuit testing for continuity and safety after installation and adjust as needed.
  • Works in accordance with the National Electric Code as well as state and local building and electrical codes.
  • Plans network installations by studying customer orders, plans, manuals, and technical specifications; ordering and gathering equipment, supplies, materials, and tools, assessing installation sites; preparing an installation diagram.
  • Establishes voice and data networks by running, pulling, terminating, and splicing cables; installing telecommunications equipment, routers, switches, multiplexores, cable trays, and alarm and fire-suppression systems; building ironwork and ladder racks; establishing connections; programming features; establishing connections and integrations; following industry standards; activating remote access tools; coordinating with contractors.
  • Verifies service by testing circuits, equipment, and alarms; identifying, correcting, or escalating problems.
  • Documents network by labeling and routing equipment and cables; recording configuration diagrams and specifications.
  • Maintains network by troubleshooting and repairing outages; testing network back-up procedures; updating documentation.
  • Maintains customer rapport by listening to and resolving concerns; answering questions.
  • Maintains a safe work environment by following codes, standards, and legal regulations.
  • Keeps supplies ready by inventorying stock; placing orders; verifying receipts.
  • Update job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading technical publications.
  • Enhances department and organization reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
  • Conducts testing for: multiple vendor commissioning, provisioning, site testing, and system testing; Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) testing; traffic migrations and live fiber rolls; system Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) Equalizations; network unfolds; network expansions; system overbuilds; system upgrades; software upgrades; and circuit grooming for bandwidth optimization.
  • Completes project documentation and record keeping, daily update submissions and work quality audits.
  • Performs all tasks required for installation of complete structured cabling system in new or existing construction environment, including but not limited to: CAT 5e, 6, 6a, fiber optic horizontal cabling; copper/fiber optic distribution backbone cabling; pathways/cable support systems; equipment rack/cabinet; cross-connect blocks. Familiarity with network equipment and circuitry, fiber optic and ethernet cabling.
  • Assesses municipal needs to determine the necessity of capital improvements and equipment acquisition.
  • Ensures buildings are locked and secured as needed. Due to the nature of the work the employee will have frequent access to confidential areas, documents and meetings and must ensure confidentiality at all times.
  • Evaluates service costs and makes related recommendations regarding prospective equipment purchases and operating programs. Identifies and recommends improvements in divisional and departmental operations to ensure assigned functions are efficient and cost effective.


Do you have what it takes?

License/Certification:

  • Journeyman License (Required)
  • Electrical License (Preferred)

Minimum Qualifications

Training - High school graduation or GED equivalent. Current BICSI ITS Certification. Competent with CAT 5e, 6, 6a, coax, and Test Equipment.

Experience - Five years of experience in low voltage installation and maintenance with a focus on data and telecommunications.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides evidence that the applicant possesses the Necessary Applicant Traits and can perform the essential required tasks.

Working Conditions

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of the job. The noise level in the environment is moderate to loud. Work is generally scheduled Monday through Friday, although the employee may be called in to work at any hour to perform emergency repairs as needed. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. The employee is constantly required to reach forward and do simple grasping; frequently to constantly required to stand and push/pull; frequently required to walk, lift, carry, bend/stoop, twist, reach below the waist, power grasp, and perform cervical flexion and cervical rotation; occasionally to frequently required to climb stairs, crouch/kneel/squat, reach above the shoulder, do fine manipulation, perform cervical extension, and work at heights; occasionally required to sit, reach horizontally, reach overhead, and perform cervical side bending; and rare or on an occasional basis required to crawl and be in a quadruped position. Physical demands are described as very heavy, requiring material handling demands that can exceed 100 lbs. occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 lbs. of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 lbs. of force constantly in order to move objects). While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and risk of electrical shock. The employee is frequently exposed to outside weather conditions and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; and toxic or caustic chemicals. Specific vision abilities required include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The worker must also be able to smell and hear on a constant basis and talk on an occasional to frequent basis.
