This is a hybrid role out of our Fort Wayne, IN office.

What the day will look like

As an Underwriting Specialist II, you will report directly to the Underwriting Manager working in the challenging and rewarding segment of insurance!

  • Responsible for renewal business; file setup, rating, loss analysis.
  • Preparation of policy issuance instructions, and handling of endorsement requests.
  • Interface with claims administrators; perform billing functions, work with internal departments and clients/brokers to ensure timely payment.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • Property and Casualty insurance license is required - must be acquired within 90 days of hire date
  • Understanding of commercial auto, liability and property coverages.
  • Perform rating of multi-state ISO coverages as well as program rating.
  • Approve the coverages requested within specified underwriting authority, either as submitted or on a modified basis, or decline the risk in its entirety; refer with recommended action if risk exceeds underwriting authority.
  • Computer capabilities to include Microsoft Word and Excel.
  • Develop and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with underwriting coworkers and managers, direct insureds and insurance broker clients, and carrier partners to efficiently execute assigned responsibilities
  • Prioritize work and possess effective time management skills.

Education: High School Diploma or equivalent, Bachelors Degree preferred or equivalent years of experience.

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $40,000 - $55,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.
