We currently have an exciting Hybrid career opportunity for an Underwriting Professional I in our Ft. Wayne, IN office. This position will support one of six specialized underwriting units within K&K Insurance Group, a wholly owned subsidiary of Aon.

What the day will look like

This associate underwriting position is accountable for reviewing and evaluating applications for insurance coverages to confirm acceptability withing established program guidelines and determine appropriate premium amounts. This is a position responsible for handling submissions involving participant accident coverages, as well as property and casualty coverages.

  • Review and evaluate new insurance applications and related documents
  • Review and evaluate renewal business and recommend appropriate actions to attain premium rate and loss ratio objectives.
  • Handle incoming and outgoing phone calls and emails from prospective and existing clients.
  • Identify and obtain additional relevant information not included with the initial submission to ensure a thorough evaluation of the risk.
  • Prepare own or review other quotations/proposals for presentation to potential clients.
  • Approve the coverages requested within specified underwriting authority, either as submitted or on a modified basis, or decline the risk in its entirety; refer with recommended action if risk exceeds underwriting authority.
  • Develop and maintain positive and constructive working relationships with underwriting coworkers and managers, direct insureds and insurance broker clients, and carrier partners to efficiently execute assigned responsibilities.
  • Review and understand policy forms used in specific programs to ensure consistency and keep producers informed regarding coverage issues;
  • Complete a variety of underwriting assignments at the direction of the underwriting unit management staff.

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • 5+ years of insurance experience and/or 3+ years of proven insurance underwriting expertise
  • L&H and P&C insurance license preferred (must be obtained within 90 days of hire)
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary to communicate in a professional manner with clients and the marketplace
  • Direct client sales skill
  • Analytical skills - problem solving
  • Ability to learn and retain information quickly while working in a fast paced, highly transactional environment

Education: Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of industry experience.

The salary range for this position (intended for U.S. applicants) is $50,000 to $55,000 annually. The actual salary will vary based on applicant's education, experience, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with market data. The salary may also be adjusted based on applicant's geographic location.

This position is eligible to participate in one of Aon's annual incentive plans to receive an annual discretionary bonus in addition to base salary. The amount of any bonus varies and is subject to the terms and conditions of the applicable incentive plan.
