Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications forSummer Robotics Camp Senior Lead Teacher.

The position of Senior Lead Teacher provides leadership for all teachers and volunteers in providing a quality, developmentally appropriate curriculum for each assigned child while maintain a warm, secure environment for campers, staff and parents. The week leading up to the start of the camps, camp preparation will be required to develop camp curriculum and complete organizational work necessary for a smooth camp season.

Duties/Responsibilities

* Provide assistance to camp directors by creating and implementing robotic and STEM curriculum for each assigned child.
* Supervise all camp activities.
* Become familiar with camp rules and expectations and help maintain an environment in accordance with these expectations.
* Assist in preparing and implementing creative activities.
* Confer with the camp director on a daily basis to maintain consistency of care for children.
* Assist in maintaining classroom management using appropriate, positive methods; review the campers' "special needs list" and any staff or parent notes to ensure special needs are met (allergies, medical conditions, etc.).
* Share in duties to maintain a clean, safe environment, free from unsightly clutter.
* Establish and maintain effective communication with all parents when needed, and other staff through daily conversations.
* Be sensitive to children's, parent's and staff's needs and maintain a nurturing atmosphere, treating all children and adults with respect.
* Be knowledgeable of fire evacuation, tornado and earthquake procedures.
* Assist with some office duties as needed (i.e., accepting payments, posting messages, etc.).
* Report to camp director any issues or concerns that inhibit or prevent quality programming.
* Chaperone students on field trips.

Required Knowledge and Skills

* Associate degree or two years of coursework in STEM field or Education, or a related field. Work experience or a combination of work experience and education in a closely related field may be substituted when it has provided equivalent preparation.
* Experience with LEGO Robotics and block coding.
* Strong interpersonal skills including a pleasant personality that encourages a cooperative work environment.
* Effective listening, clear oral communication and strong written communication skills.
* Effective leadership skills in the planning and supervision of staff and volunteers.
* Must have a desire to nurture and educate young children.
* Must meet all health requirements such as a criminal history check and drug screening as required.

Preferred Knowledge and Skills

* Bachelor's degree.
