Job Summary

Position entails creating new and revising current detailed 3D models and 2D drawings. Designer will work with mechanical engineering team and manufacturing to help in motor development and cost-reduction. Position also entails concept design, prototype, design for manufacturing, failure analysis, teardown, and testing of electric motors. Testing may include performance testing, life testing, development testing, and third party certification testing analysis.

Job Description

Job responsibilities will include:

* Electric motor design (AC, DC, PM, and other technologies)

* 3D and 2D Solidworks modeling

* Analysis, testing, and prototype fabrication of electric motors

* Designing, fabricating, and executing new tests

* Design change validation for new product development, cost reduction, and quality improvement

* Analysis of test data, documentation, communication of key information to development groups for cross functional analysis

* Fundamentals of machining, part processing and basic shop practices

* Mechanical design fundamentals including component design, assembly, FEA, and bearing life

* Material grades and selection based on internal or customer supplied specifications

* Interface with vendors to provide technical support for projects

* Assist in writing internal specifications, work instructions, and/or supplier part specifications

* Inspection, testing, and evaluation of product based on customer specifications

* Motor teardown

Additional Job Details

The ideal candidate would need the following skills and abilities:

* Proficient with SolidWorks and/or other 3D/2D drafting software

* Understanding of electric motors and basic construction

* Knowledge of Geometric Dimension & Tolerance System (GD&T)

* Good analytical & drafting skills

* Dependable - will do tasks thoroughly to completion

* Understanding of mechanical engineering fundamentals

* Some hands-on experience with manufacturing, processing and/or machining w/ metals.

* Ability to work in a professional setting & with team members

* Experience with basic quality tools

* Proficient PC word processing and spreadsheet software skills

* Good oral, presentation, and written communication skills

* Ability to work with & communicate with vendors or customers

* Initiative to work with minimum supervision & manage overall task

* Courage to take on challenges with the possibility of failure

* Passion for learning
