FLSA Administrative Exemption

Length of Assignment Full-Time At-Will
Position Function
Supports the Chief of Police in planning and coordinating the operational and personnel activities for the Office of Public Safety.
Minimum Education
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.
Minimum Experience
Seven years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience; at least five years of supervisory experience.
Minimum Other
Certified as a police officer in the State of Indiana or have demonstrated ability by possessing comparable state law enforcement certification elsewhere and able to be certified by the state of Indiana within the first year of employment.
Authorization to work in the US Candidates for searches must have current authorization to be employed in the U.S. without employer sponsorship.
Preferred Education
Advanced specialty training in criminal investigation and other police functions.
Preferred Experience
Experience in campus law enforcement; familiarity with multi-agency task forces and crime prevention/public education programming in a college or university setting.
Preferred Other
Demonstrated ability to make difficult, complex, administrative, and operational decisions. Working knowledge of the Jeanne Clery Act and the CALEA Accreditation process.
Pre-Employment Screening Requires successful completion of a Drivers License check, Requires successful completion of a background check and education verification.

Duties & Responsibilities

Ranking 1
Job Duty
Serve as the Assistant Chief of the University Police with responsibility for carrying out orders of the Police Chief with direct supervision of all law enforcement activities and responsibility for the public safety of the university.

Job Duty
In conjunction with the Chief of Police, evaluates and modifies, as required, programs, activities, policies, procedures, rules, orders and regulations to ensure compliance with the University's and Department's mission, goals, objectives, core values, system's policies, university operating procedures, department policies and state laws.

Job Duty
Full supervisory responsibility for interviewing and selection, coaching, compensation, discipline, performance appraisal, training, and career development of personnel for one or more functions within a work unit.

Supervise the day-to-day operations of the Police Department to include the interactive work products of patrol, dispatch, and investigations.

Job Duty
Supervise directly and indirectly all Office of Parking Services personnel as directed; when called upon, coordinate with the Associate Director of Parking Services all necessary procedures for administration of the parking program on campus; monitor the Office of Parking Services to ensure adherence to university regulations and department objectives.

Represent the Chief of Police as a liaison and coordinator between the university and local public safety agencies and other community groups.
